Poem 15
Inside the Hearts of Man
Intentions stand against the wind,
That howls against defeat.
Committed to the path I've found,
That lays beneath my feet.
Empty is the feeling cast,
As down that road I look,
And see my friends return again,
To write more in their book.
Of life and love and dreams fulfilled,
Of passion soon released;
Of living fully with great need,
To speak of joy and peace.
Don't disappoint me now he said,
Don't tell me that you can't.
Return to those among the fields,
Sow life's eternal chant.
We paved a road with good intent,
Regardless of the cost.
We spent our time on wings that soared,
Recapturing lives we lost.
For those of us who'd never flown,
Who'd never had the chance.
To throw their arms up silently,
To mime the children's dance.
Together for the briefest time,
I learned to love anew;
That each of us can share their hearts,
And reach beyond the few.
For many gifts I have received I will forever thank,
The members of a group of stars, clustered 'round the banks;
Of rolling rivers heretofore, meandering through our lives.
I listened hard and heard a voice, that called to me inside.
Reminding me of dreams yet shared,
Of deeds left so undone.
The beauty is that people care,
And life is more that fun.
So as you reach the end of days,
That each may pass beyond,
Remember that your doors are found,
Inside the hearts of man.
