Poem 7
Life is Like Water
Life is like water, it flows around rocks,
Despite our best efforts it outlasts the locks.
How is it that fear can tear us apart,
Though often the waiting makes living so dark.
Life moves down great rivers,
Of uncertain dreams,
And fills all the oceans,
While most of us scheme.
About our agreements,
About our self-doubt,
Those strange, subtle feelings,
That made him come out.
And carefully look at his life and his means,
Of coping with things that he couldn't have dreamed.
That life in his box was unfair and untrue,
That losing the victim brought feelings so new.
Most of his classmates have enrolled their hearts,
By living a dream that involves many parts.
Their construct of nature defined by their 'rents,
Though many had found it exhaustingly spent.
I've travelled a journey, much time I have lent,
Wasted by watching the others get bent.
Twisted by day dreams of what they could be,
As life flowed around them, and flowed around me.
But now time is precious, each moment I find,
Contains drops of water, that unbend my mind.
And as I allow it to flow 'round each bend,
I know that these moments will likely not end.
They fill up my river, and flow through my mind,
They unbend the mystery we've labeled as time.
And now I have taken small steps to unwind,
These moments of wonder that I choose to find.
The freedom I've worshiped was there all along,
A beautiful, wandering purposeful song.
I've chosen to sing it for all that I am,
For life is like water, and I am a man.
